Mom is not feeling so good today. She’s dry heaving. And very dizzy. So we are waiting for some nausea meds. And she’s finishing up her iv antibiotics.
Update: just saw nurse and nurse manager and the infectious disease dr.
Hemoglobin today is 8.4
Mom just got zofran to help with nausea. We asked for meclazine (which was given to her when she last had these dizzy spells- and really helped her) so they will most likely prescribe it.
The dr here will have the neurologist check mom out, and follow up with the neurologist from Hackensack (dr. goldlust) and all of the bloodwork he had done on mom, to see if anything needs to be followed up on, or anything correlates with her care here. That will help her, and help them get her stable and better.
This way anything and all things are communicated and well cared for- and if anything needs to be addressed it can be.
So, mom will not be discharged today.
The blood cultures do not show anything. Which is good!
This tells the doctors that the cause of fever was most likely caused by any little bacteria from moms colon or post nasal drip that her body just couldn’t fight due to her low wbc and non existent level of any neutrophils.
Any little bacteria from her own body floating around could have caused any fever, and then an infection.
The dizziness is most likely from her low blood pressure, which is from her body’s stress fighting any bacteria.
Moms dry cough- cause post nasal drip. They will give her a tube to do lung exercises with- to strengthen the lungs, and help her with the lung spasms.
I asked about a probiotic, since mom is on a very strong antibiotic through IV, which they will continue. No probiotic for mom.
The reason is because mom has no wbc a probiotic would introduce a live bacteria to her system- which would be way to dangerous. And her body would not be able to fight it. So that’s a hard NO.
They will monitor her, and watch her. NO FEVER TODAY. But they can not discharge her because she is not eating or drinking and can not hold anything down due to nausea and dry heaving.
She is too dizzy and not stable. Again, a neurologist here will follow up on the blood work the neurologist from Hackensack did, and we will go from
There.
And I asked if they would repeat a CBC today, because of mom’s symptoms- being the symptoms that match the ones that dictate when she needs a blood transfusion , with low hemoglobin. The nurse manager and the infectious disease dr agreed with me, and will see if the CBC can be done again today.
Right now mom is resting, and we are waiting to see if they will prescribe her dizzy medication or the neurologist will come first… I’ll keep you all posted.
Update: They are doing some bloodwork, so looks like im getting what I asked for!! A CBC new levels
